Today was day 1 in BADMINTON. One of the things we focused on was serves. The following videos demonstrate 3 types of basic serves. 1) Short serve, 2) Forehand Deep, and 3) Backhand.
In a short serve you don't follow through as high as you do for a forehand deep serve. Here's how:
I need to learn how to do this.
ReplyDeleteI find this technique really hard to do. I think it's because my follow through is a little bit too much or not enough. Sometimes I hit above the waist rather than below it.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like the short serve. I find that the opponent can easily return the short serve, and so makes my job harder to score. Also, I think the short serve fails for me a lot because I get paranoid about how much power to put into it. I don't want to accidentally serve it too far too radically, so I hold back the power in the serve. This ends up leading to my serves being too short, and so I think this serve is not for me.

I like hitting a short serve because I have control of where the shuttle is going to go (most of the time). The only problem is that the shuttle ends up short of the service box on the receiving side.
