Here's an sample of where each offensive player positions him/herself. Your assignment is to comment on THREE of the positions. What are the main characteristics that make up that player.... what are their strengths? This is worth ONE Activity Log and is due by Wednesday, Dec. 8th.
Point Guard: Usually the shortest and fastest players in the team. They are often the best at dribbling and therefore they are the ones who bring the ball up the court on offense while the rest of the players get into their positions. They are often the leader on the floor. They call out plays and controlling the tempo of the game. They have the ball in their hands the most out of any position.
ReplyDeleteSmall Forward: Forwards are some of smallest players on the team. Usually plays around the wing or corner and usually drives along the baseline. They are solid rebounders. And good runners and passers.
Center: The center is the biggest or strongest player. Their primary jobs are to get rebounds and score points when close the basket.
Thanks Josh! Good job.
ReplyDeleteShooting Guard (Wing): Mid-sized player. Quick on their feet, both in defense and offense. Able to shoot from almost anywhere on the court and can dribble the ball well.
ReplyDeletePoint Guard: Short and fast. Runs the court during offense, calling out plays and controlling the tempo of their teammates. They can dribble, shoot, and pass exceptionally well and use this to keep their team in control during the game.
Center: Tallest, strongest, and most agressive player on the court. They play down low on both defense and offense, and their main job is to get rebounds and find open opportunities to shoot, especially when close to the basket.
Center: Usually the tallest player and is usually very strong and big. They are positioned close to the basket. They take jump balls and protect the center.
ReplyDeleteSmall Forward: Usually smaller, shorter, quicker, leaner. They are sometimes tall, and are usually good at all the basketball positions. They are in charge of close-range shots, and are 2nd or 3rd of the biggest players.
Point guard: Also called the playmaker. They try to set up opportunities for their team to score. They are in charge of setting up the plays and bringing the ball down the court for offensive play. They are usually one of the smaller players, and are also the best ball handler.
Point guard: Usually a smaller person in terms of height and weight, the point guard is in charge of calling plays and often leading the team. Point guards have good ball handling skills, which is necessary to successfully get the ball down the court without a turnover to the defense.
ReplyDeleteCenter: Usually the biggest player on the team, the center often hangs out below the basket or right by it. The center mainly makes rebounds, which makes their height advantageous; they can also make points when close to the basket because their size enables them not to be pushed around in the key.
Shooting guard: The shooting guard is around the middle in terms of size, when compared with other players. The shooting guard is quick, and also has good ball handling skills, but perhaps not as good as the point-guard. The shooting guard is mainly a shooting player, and has skills at shooting far from the basket. Shooting guards have the skill of being able to catch and immediately shoot the ball.
Point Guard: The point guard is the best ball handler on the team. He/she is usually one of the smaller players, but is quick and has good dribbling and passing skills. Point guards include Steve Nash, Baron Davis, and Rajon Rondo
ReplyDeleteShooting Guard: The shooting guard has the best shot on the team. Usually, they are medium in height and tend to also have good ball handling skills, but not as good as the point guard. They are very good three point shooters. Shooting guards include Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, and Manu Ginobli.
Centers: Centers are the biggest and most physical guys on the team. They are the guys that go for rebounds close to the hoop, do the jump balls, and guard the key on defense. They are not very quick, in general, but what they lack in quickness, they make up for in rebounding, shot blocking, and scoring in the paint, or close to the hoop. Centers include Ben Wallace, Yao Ming, and Anderson Varejao.

Center: Most defensive player on the team. Usually tall in order to block offense from getting close and easy shots. He/She should also be responsible for recovering close rebounds to prevent offense from getting the ball again. In terms of offense, they should be able to shoot close 2-point shots.
